The College
The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare (CNMH) is a major provider of pre-registration and post-qualifying nursing, midwifery, paramedic, ODP, public health (undergraduate to doctoral) and apprenticeship education.
Our Midwifery provision encompasses the below pre-registration routes:
- BMidwifery (Hons) 3-year duration
- BMidwifery (Hons) / Midwife Degree Apprenticeship 3 year and 1 month duration
- MMidwifery 3-year duration
- MMidwifery 2-year duration (shortened course for adult nurses)
We also offer a range of post-qualifying modules including Midwives and Critical Care Practice, Professional Midwifery Advocacy and Leadership, Examination of the Newborn and Caring for Families Experiencing Perinatal Loss.
Our provision is delivered across two main campuses West London (Brentford) and Reading in Berkshire, both of which are served by state of the art simulation centres (including virtual reality and immersive rooms).
This post will be based at the UWL Brentford campus, with travel to the Berkshire Institute for Nursing Midwifery and Healthcare in Reading and practice partner sites expected.

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare as the Lead Midwife for Education/Head of Midwifery. This follows promotion of the current post-holder. The post will encompass:
- Fulfilling the NMC Statutory requirements of the appointment of a Lead Midwife for Education.
- Leading the midwifery course provision (pre-registration and post-qualifying) within the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare (CNMH).
- Fostering a culture of inclusivity, equality, diversity, innovation and collegiality, providing an environment where all midwifery staff and students feel supported, valued and are able to achieve their potential.
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring undergraduate and post-graduate Midwifery curricula utilise contemporary pedagogy, the most current evidence base, demonstrate high quality scholarship and effective and efficient use of technology enhanced learning.
- Providing leadership and line management to the midwifery team.
- Representing the College and the University in the wider community. Attend relevant external professional meetings and liaise with the NMC, NHSE Regional Midwives, LME Strategic reference group, the RCM Education Advisory group and collaborate with maternity services, service users and user groups in all matters that affect midwifery education.
- Serving as a member of the College’s Senior Management Team, contributing to the strategic development of CNMH.
The Person
You will be registered with the NMC as a Midwife, hold a Master’s degree, a teaching qualification and Fellow / Senior Fellowship with the HEA.
You will have experience of leading on curricula and module development of pre and post registration midwifery courses and the quality assurance processes associated with these, in higher education, in the UK.
You will act as the ‘champion’ for midwifery at UWL, ensuring new opportunities are sought and developed.
As an experienced senior academic with highly developed communication, interpersonal and influencing skills you will have experience of engaging clinical partners and service users and networking nationally, to ensure our provision remains contemporaneous and meets the future needs of the midwifery workforce and the professional body.
Finally, you will have experience of leadership and management of a team.
