The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare at the University of West London is a leading provider of healthcare education.

The Role   

This is the role under the leadership of the Head of Practice Education, the post holder will be responsible for the support of practice staff and students in clinical placements within healthcare sectors across London and Berkshire. The postholder must have registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and have experience of supporting and supervising learners. 

Key areas of responsibility 

• Assist organisations to identify learning and development opportunities which best meet the needs of the placement areas and learners on placement.  
• Contribute to the preparation and on-going development of practice assessors and practice supervisors to effectively support learners.  
• Work with practice learning partners to enhance the learning experience of pre-registration nursing students on practice placements. 
• Support practice learning partners to make appropriate decisions when supporting and assessing learners.  
• Facilitate teaching sessions for students to ensure they are adequately prepared for practice. 
• Contribute to the preparation and on-going development of academic assessors 
• Support academic assessors to make appropriate decisions when dealing with complex situations such as making reasonable adjustments, under achievement of learners or fitness to practice. 
• Ensure each placement area is assessed against published quality standards. 
• Promote a partnership approach to audit and quality assurance of practice placements 
• Work collaboratively with the practice education support team (PESU). 
• Contribute and feedback to placement areas and education providers following learner evaluation of practice placements.  

UWL has multiple placement areas within London and Berkshire where UWL nursing students will experience their practice placements. The post holder will need to travel to the placement areas.   

In addition to the above areas of responsibility the post-holder maybe required to undertake any other reasonable duties relating to the broad scope of the position, commensurate with the post, and in support of the University.

This role will be based in the Research Support Unit, which is responsible for supporting the growth of research, knowledge exchange and commercial activity of the University. This is a dynamic team that has supported significant new activities over the last few years.

The Role 

Working with the Head of Knowledge Exchange and Business Engagement to proactively grow UWL’s knowledge exchange (KE) and enterprise activities. This role provides central support to coordinate our growing academic-led knowledge transfer activity.   

The Person

The ideal person will have a passion for innovation, interest in grant and bid development and capability to coordinate staff development in knowledge exchange. Literate to business and industry needs, experience across or awareness of innovation funding application processes and/ or holding an understanding of grant funding schemes available to Higher Education institutions is valuable but not conditional to the role.

The Department 

The UKVI Compliance department plays a crucial role within UWL to ensure the UKVI student sponsor license is safeguarding, maintained and fully compliant with student visa sponsorship duties. The team communicate with everyone across the University and provide guidance and advice to both staff and students.

The team’s work is essential for maintaining the integrity of the UKVI system and ensuring that international students can study without any legal issues and adhere to UK immigration laws.

With the expansion of the UKVI Compliance department, we have realigned vital roles and created a new CAS team where we are seeking 1 Senior and 3 UKVI CAS Officers plus 2 administrators.

The Role 

The postholder will be required to have an excellent understanding of the UKVI student visa regulations, sponsor duties and ensure the university remains compliant under the UKVI sponsor licence duties.

The key aspect of the role is to manage the CAS compliance team.  To work collaboratively with a variety of departments and offer holders to ensure UKVI procedures and processes are adhered to. 

The post holder is required to have an overview of UKVI visa holders with a clear understanding of UKVI student regulations and sponsor duties. Support the team with check student documentation, undertake credibility checks and assist with queries relating with UKVI requirements.  

To ensure the team regularly engage with applicants, keeping them up to date with progress of their CAS is crucial to keep them fully abreast of their application. Together with the ability to react and advise on any UKVI breaches 

It is essential that accurate student records are kept up to date and always maintained.

This appointment requires a flexible approach to working hours as contact made overseas is outside the core hours and on occasions evening cover is required. The role is fully on-site, primarily based at our St. Mary’s Road campus but cover is required, on occasions, at our other locations/sites. 

The Person

We are seeking an experienced line manager with enthusiasm, resilience and customer focused person with proven and extensive work experience in using UKVI SMS as a level 1 user, but managing the CAS process and the issuing of CAS is essential. 

You should be methodical, IT literate, with excellent attention to detail and able to balance conflicting workloads coupled with the experience of planning and prioritising competing and complex workloads of both you and the team effectively, frequently under pressure.

Another key aspect is the ability to communicate with international students where English is not a first spoken language.

Previous work experience in the Higher Education sector is essential.

 Key elements of the role will be:

- Delivering in-person scheduled classes and non-scheduled academic support to students on the module(s) concerned as appropriate/instructed.

- Updating module contents to ensure their currency and relevance.

- Populating the relevant module onto our online student communication platform (blackboard).

- Marking first sit and resit assessments in accordance with the UWL quality assurance requirements and mark processing  in coordination with the admin team.

- Attending assessment boards where their modules are considered.

- Contributing to partnership provision through teaching delivery and/or Module Leader (MLT) responsibilities,  in accordance with institutional and partnership requirements.
