Functional Skills Tutor - (Hourly Paid Lecturer)

The Department 

 The Study Support Team provides Functional Skills maths and English opportunities to apprentices, students and the wider London population. The team also provides academic guidance and support to all current UWL students, peer mentoring opportunities, and pre-sessional English courses.

The Role 

The University of West London is seeking an experienced Functional Skills Maths and/or English Tutor to join our team and deliver engaging and effective Functional Skills courses via live online delivery. As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to adult learners, helping them to develop their skills in order to achieve their Functional Skills qualifications.

The pay is £51.20 per hour and courses last approximately 60 hours each. They are delivered over 6/7 weeks each and start every 8/9 weeks throughout the year.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following expertise and experience:

  • A degree in either Mathematics, English, Education, or a related field. 
  • Recognised teaching qualifications. 
  • Proven experience in teaching Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2 English or Maths to adult learners. 
  • Experience of teaching in an online setting. 
  • Expertise in creating engaging online lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments. 
  • Proficiency in utilising online teaching platforms and digital tools to enhance the virtual learning experience. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and motivate online learners.
  • Ability to adapt online teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities. 
  • Strong organisational skills to manage course schedules, and digital administrative tasks.
